Apple shares surge on AI 'super cycle' hopes

The iPhone maker will only offer AI services on the newest iPhones and Macs, meaning some 90 per cent of users will need an upgrade

Apple’s (US:AAPL) share price shot up after its OpenAI partnership announcement raised hopes of a new iPhone "super cycle" driven by consumers upgrading for access to new artificial intelligence (AI) features.

The company's share price has now more than recovered its early year losses and is on the brink of retaking the position of the world’s most valuable company from Microsoft (US:MSFT).
